Inside VIPIS
The VIPIS Board has six members of several faiths, all of them committed to fighting against the evils of 9/11: the evils of violence, ignorance, prejudice, repression and fear.
The President is Dr Robin-Edward Poulton (rpoulton@comcast.net) a United Nations peace researcher and British national who is Visiting Professor at Virginia Commonwealth University. (See CV as PDF file.)
The Vice-President is Dr Shaheed Coovadia, Imam and Director of ICVA (Imamshaheed@hotmail.com) who was born in South Africa and who studied in the holy Islamic city of Medina. (See CV as PDF file.)
Our founding Treasurer, Ms Saima Khattak has returned to her native Pakistan. The Board has appointed an experienced and widely-travelled accountant, Mrs Carol Warner as the new Honorary Treasurer.
Ms Nadia Hyder, of William and Mary Law School has joined the Board as Legal Counsellor.
Mr Ali Faruk, former President of the Muslim Student Association at Virginia Commonwealth University, and recently elected 2006-2007 President of VCU Student Government Association, has been invited to join the Board in a personal capacity.
The current MSA delegate, replacing Mr Faizan Mujeebuddin, is MSA past President Mr Sadiq Mirza.
The Board is also looking to coopt one or more teachers to increase our breadth and understanding, preferably some women!
The Muslim Students' Association has nominated to the Board in 2004 as the MSA's first representative Mr Faizan Mujeebuddin, whose family roots are in India.
The second woman on the VIPIS Board is Palestinian.
